September 24-28

Math
We are finishing up our unit on Place Value and Addition & Subtraction this week. A review will come home on Tuesday to be completed and signed by a parent, and returned first thing Wednesday morning. We will assess on Wednesday during math over these skills. On Thursday we will start our new unit on Data Analysis and have some fun with frequency tables.

Reading
We will be reading a story in our Journey's textbooks called Max's Words. We will discuss and practice sequencing events this week. Students' vocabulary words will come from this fun story. 

Writing
Since including details is such an important part when writing personal narratives, we will spend a few more days on Show, Don't Tell. We have really enjoyed practicing this skill in class! We'll end the week by thinking about how we want to "hook" our reader into our story with a great introduction to our personal narratives.


Social Studies
This week in social studies we will be discussing the 3 branches of government.

Science
We will be doing many hands on activities to better understand mixtures and solutions. Students will be assessed with the unit district assessment on Friday.

September 17-21

Math
This week in math we will be working on subtraction strategies! Students will be exposed to strategies such as drawing out models, using a number line, decomposing numbers, and solving using the basic algorithm. Students will also be taught how to subtract across zeroes, as well as strip diagrams this week. A review will go home over the weekend, and we will test Tuesday of next week on Place Value and Addition & Subtraction. 

Reading
We will be reading a story in our Journey's textbooks called Destiny's Gift. We will discuss Character Traits this week. Students' vocabulary words will come from this story. A list of the vocabulary words are under my student websites tab above.

Writing
This week, students will be planning out their personal narratives. All students will have a library checkout this Friday. 

Social Studies
This week in Social Studies, students will be researching an important person on Pebble Go with a partner. They will jot down notes notes on what made this person a great citizen and how they contributed to their community. Students will use google slides to present at the end of the week. 

Science
In Science this week, we will be discussing and experimenting with how matter can go through different changes when heat is added or removed.

Math
This week in math we will be working on addition strategies! Students will be exposed to strategies such as drawing out models, using a number line, decomposing numbers, and solving using the basic algorithm. 

Reading
We will be reading a story in our Journey's textbooks called A Fine, Fine School. We will discuss story elements elements this week. Students' vocabulary words will come from this exciting story. 

Writing
Students will begin writing their personal narratives this week. We will discuss the importance of choosing a seed story rather than a watermelon story.

Social Studies
This week in Social Studies we will be talking all about the rights and responsibilities we have at home, school, and in our state and nation.

Science
We will discuss how heat affects matter and be assessing over this unit at the end of the week.

September 4-7

Math
We will continue on with our unit on Place Value this week. Students will practice rounding to the nearest ten and hundred, as well as reviewing and practicing the strategies to solve a 3-digit number addition problem. For rounding, we have watched the Rounding Rap many times. This is a great way for students to learn the steps on how to round a number. You can also find this video under my Student Websites page.

Reading
This week in reading, students will work on responding to their reading in a variety of ways using their Reading Response Menu.

Writing
Students will begin writing their personal narratives this week. We will discuss the importance of choosing a seed story rather than a watermelon story.


Science
In the past couple of weeks, we've talked about ways that we can classify matter. This week, students will be learning how the matter in each state moves.
